Quality Without Compromise
RECENT exists for one reason; fresh coffee tastes better.
Most coffee is roasted in large volumes, then packed, stored and distributed until it reaches a shelf. By the time it is brewed, much of its character has faded. For a business, that model is efficient and easier to scale - it is more predictable. We have chosen to be different.
We roast in small batches and organise the business around getting coffee to customers at its best. Often that means roasting and dispatching on the same day. It is operationally harder, it requires more attention and it limits certain kinds of growth, but it also delivers a better cup.
Quality for us is not about prestige or marketing language, it is about discipline and we apply that to the whole business, from product to content. We select high-grade coffees, develop roast profiles in house and treat freshness as non-negotiable.
We sell a premium product without theatre or pretension, making it accessible at home.
HOW WE ACT
Responsibility: Farm to Future
We choose the people we work with carefully. Selected for their ethical sourcing and traceability, these are not names from a catalogue but people we have built personal relationships with over years of aligned values. Our aim is simple: to bring some of the best coffees humanity has to offer, directly to our customers.
Every bean we roast is chosen by our team. Spotlight roasts come from curiosity and passion rather than a committee of shareholders. They range from everyday decafs to rare, premium lots from renowned farms. Each is tasted, cupped and given a roast profile developed in-house until it reflects the coffee at its best.
Our approach extends to operations. We began with traditional roasting, but chose to evolve, embracing electric, ventless technology for precision and lower environmental impact. Deliveries are made by electric van and packaging is fully recyclable. These choices take more effort, limit certain kinds of growth and cost more. They are practical steps toward sustainability, not marketing. We have not solved sustainability, but we are committed to improving it.
WHY WE EXIST
Accessibility
Specialty coffee can feel intimidating; for many people, equipment, brewing methods and terminology can be overwhelming. Our role is to guide customers through it, simplifying along the way and providing the best beans to work with.
The RECENT team are at the centre of that work. Baristas and roasters help people understand what they enjoy, recommend suitable equipment, and explain the methods behind each cup. These conversations happen at the roastery and online. The aim is not to dictate taste but to help people discover their own.
We are an independent, premium specialty coffee company. Making coffee at home requires care, but the result is richer and more nuanced than commercial coffee. Our goal is to help customers recreate and improve that experience using better coffee and guidance, consistently.
Freshly-roasted coffee gives the best chance of making a great cup. Thoughtful blends, carefully developed roast-profiles and practical advice make specialty coffee at home not only accessible, but repeatable.

We are proud to be rooted in West Yorkshire, but our work reaches beyond the local area. Our heritage shapes how we operate, the relationships we build, and the way we engage with those around us. At the same time, our approach and expertise extend nationally and internationally.
Community is both a responsibility and a connection. Supporting local initiatives and fostering meaningful relationships reflects how we believe business should be done. We aim to contribute thoughtfully, without performative gestures, in ways that are genuine and sustainable.
