THE PRODUCER
This coffee is grown by Samuel Koskey, a dedicated smallholder farmer in Kericho County, Kenya. Samuel carefully cultivates his AA-grade coffee on a small family farm, combining traditional Kenyan practices with meticulous attention to detail to ensure even cherry maturation and high-quality beans.
THE COFFEE
This Kenyan decaf comes from the highlands of Kericho County, a region renowned for fertile soils and consistent rainfall. Fully washed and decaffeinated using EA, this coffee retains the structural integrity and clarity of traditional Kenyan AA coffees.
Decaffeination is carried out using the gentle Ethyl Acetate (EA) method. This natural process preserves the coffee’s character while removing caffeine, delivering a decaf coffee with balance, sweetness, and clarity.
THE REGION
Kericho County sits at approximately 1,500 metres above sea level, with a climate that supports slow, even cherry development. While historically better known for tea production, the region’s coffee is gaining recognition for its balance, sweetness, and clarity.
Through careful selection and processing, coffees from Kericho are traceable and consistent, offering a dependable and characterful profile for decaffeinated and specialty coffees alike.
THE PROCESS
After harvesting, the coffee cherries are fully washed, a method that emphasises clarity and structure. Once dried and prepared, the green coffee is transported to Bremen, Germany, for decaffeination using the Ethyl Acetate (EA) process.
EA decaffeination uses a naturally occurring compound, commonly derived from sugarcane, to gently remove caffeine without applying excessive heat or pressure. This preserves the sweetness and balance of the coffee while producing a clean, chemical-free decaf.
Final roast development and tasting are carried out in-house to determine the optimal roast profile and highlight the coffee’s inherent flavours.
IN THE CUP
A clean, balanced decaf with a bright, gentle acidity. Sweet notes of sugarcane and orange lead, followed by a subtle pomegranate finish. The cup has a light body and a clarity typical of Kenyan AA coffees, delivering a decaf experience that’s nuanced, structured and satisfying.
